As a San Francisco City Hall elopement photographer, the sessions I remember most are the ones like this — a couple, their parents, and nothing else.
That’s it. That’s the whole plan. And it was perfect.
City Hall
San Francisco City Hall is one of those venues that requires nothing from you. The Beaux-Arts architecture, the grand staircase, the way the light falls through the dome — it does all the work. All you have to do is show up and mean it.
Darcey and Kevin absolutely meant it.
Darcey wore a short, beautifully textured dress — tea-length, timeless, completely her own. Kevin was in a blue suit that fit the grandeur of the building without taking itself too seriously. And the bouquet — peonies, hydrangeas, a sunflower, wildflowers trailing with long white ribbons — was the most joyful thing in the room.
Just the People Who Mattered
They kept it to their parents. No big guest list, no pressure to perform for a crowd. Just the people who raised them, watching them begin something new.
There’s something quietly powerful about that kind of wedding. Every moment lands differently when the room is small enough that everyone in it is someone you love. The vows feel more intimate. The laughter feels more real. Nothing is for anyone else.
Super 8
We shot Super 8 alongside the photography — and if you’ve never seen your wedding day on film, I can’t recommend it enough. There’s a warmth and a grain to Super 8 that digital can’t replicate. It makes everything feel like a memory even as it’s happening.
For a City Hall elopement especially, it fits. The building, the light, the scale of it — Super 8 captures all of that in a way that feels like it belongs to another era, in the best possible sense.
