Welcome, and congratulations on your engagement! Now that your engagement session is booked, it’s time to think about what to wear—and this truly matters. Outfits can make or break a session. They impact not only how elevated and cohesive your photos look, but also how confident and comfortable you feel during the experience.

The good news? You don’t need to buy anything new (unless you want to, of course). With a bit of intention, what you wear can elevate your photos and help you feel like your best, most natural self.

Below are a few simple tips to help you choose outfits that photograph beautifully and feel true to you.

Your guide to choosing the perfect outfit.

STYLE GUIDE

While you don't need to wear identical outfits, it's important to coordinate your looks. Choose a color palette that complements each other and the location of the shoot. This could be soft pastels for a romantic feel or earthy tones for a natural, outdoor setting.

Coordinate, don't match.

Remember, you’ll be moving around, posing, and maybe even dancing during your session. Choose outfits that feel comfortable and allow you to move with ease...this makes all the difference in how relaxed and natural you appear on camera.

Comfort is key.

Once you have a base, you can add textures and layers  to your outfits. This adds depth and interest to your photos. Consider a  knit sweater, or textured fabrics. Layers, like a  jacket or scarf can also provide opportunities for different looks within the same session without a complete outfit change.

Add textures + layers.

Ultimately, choose outfits that make you feel like yourselves. Whether you're casual and carefree or elegant and sophisticated, your engagement session should reflect your unique personalities and the love you share.

Be yourself.

Think about where your engagement session will take place. If it's in a lush garden, flowy dresses and light suits can create a whimsical atmosphere. If it's in an urban setting, opt for chic, contemporary styles that resonate with the surroundings.

Consider location.

Try your outfits on before your photoshoot and look in the mirror together. This helps avoid surprises and ensures you can move comfortably and confidently. Walk around, sit, hug, and even do a quick spin. Your outfits should support movement, not distract from it.

Check for potential wardrobe malfunctions, trim any visible straps or tags, and make sure undergarments aren’t showing. And most importantly, be sure you both know what the other is wearing—so you feel confident, aligned, and free from any “oh… that’s what you’re wearing?” moments on the day of your session.

Try it on.
