Luis and Isabella have been together for ten years. They met in college in Boston, built careers, built a life — and when work brought them to the Bay Area, they found themselves planning two celebrations: an intimate City Hall ceremony in San Francisco, and a bigger wedding in Italy the following month.
I got to be there for the San Francisco part. And honestly? It was one of my favorite days.

There’s a reason couples fly from across the country to get married at San Francisco City Hall. The Beaux-Arts architecture, the grand staircase, the rotunda light — it’s one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, and it happens to be a wedding venue.
For Isabella and Luis, the ceremony was small and intentional. Family nearby, tulips in hand, and ten years of history behind them. The emotion in that room was real — you can feel it in every frame.
City Hall civil ceremonies are held Tuesday through Friday and accommodate up to 100 guests for the rotunda. If you’re considering it, book your date early — it fills up fast, especially for Friday ceremonies.

After the ceremony we drove up to Mount Tamalpais in Marin — and the light did exactly what we hoped. Mount Tam gives you sweeping views of the Bay, the Pacific, and on a clear day, the entire San Francisco skyline. It’s dramatic in the best way, and completely different from the architectural grandeur of City Hall.
The contrast between the two locations made for a gallery with real range — intimate and formal inside City Hall, then open and expansive on the mountain.

Not every wedding looks the same, and not every couple wants the same thing. Isabella and Luis wanted something meaningful, something theirs — a legal ceremony surrounded by the people they love most, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, followed by portraits on a mountain as the sun went down.
That’s the kind of day I love photographing.
